I'll admit it -- this one unsettles me, and that's exactly why I love it. A pale, gaunt figure crowned in rusted gears with a glowing red eye, decked in tattered finery before a colossal clock face. It's gothic steampunk theatre at its finest, gorgeously macabre and impossible to look away from.

The tenderness here got me -- a baby hippo nestled at the center of a luminous silvery whirlpool, ringed in soft violets and pearly light. There's something almost sacred about how that little face glows out of the swirling water. I find myself just standing in front of it, breathing slower.

Not for the faint of heart, and that's exactly why I love it -- a cadaverous figure with a sewn-shut, tendrilled jaw and a third-eye amulet bolted to his brow. There's a ruined gothic city smoldering red in the distance, and those mismatched glowing eyes follow you across the room. A genuine showstopper for the macabre wing.

The warm wooden backdrop and that soft macro focus on the whiskers make the chaos feel cozy. Pure unfiltered glee, and I won't apologize for loving it.

Porthole To A Storm

Peering into this one feels like leaning against a ship's brass porthole and finding a whole Tuscan world on the other side -- a stone tower and vineyard rolling out under a sky that can't decide between thunderhead grey and electric violet. The dark riveted frame makes the drama inside glow all the brighter, and that bruised purple sky is what closed the deal for me.

Easter took a walk into a haunted wood and came back with this, and I could not resist it. I brought this beast home for sheer presence -- a blue-maned bull with brass-tipped horns emerging from a thicket of weathered iron cogwheels, half machine, half meadow. The little jeweled medallions on his brow give him this air of quiet, ancient authority, and the misty grass at the bottom keeps the whole thing from feeling cold. He guards the doorway of my industrial-fauna gallery, and frankly he earns it.
